What Can We Learn from Ants???

One can learn so much from ants!

Together with some Science Channel quotes I'm going to analyze what we can learn from ants... I love learning from God's creatures....

Ants are Hard Workers!

"Ants are incredibly strong compared to humans, and can not only lift, but carry loads up to fifty times their own weight. They will frequently pick up another ant from their colony and give them a ride in their mandibles; an ant is an easy burden compared to some of the large caterpillars and other dead insects they have to bring home."

So, I suppose we should all consider how we can help and lift others as well! Ants are so industrious and hardworking!

Ants are Healthy!

"Although ants normally eat a bland, repetitive diet, they will go to great lengths to obtain special foods they crave. This not only includes raiding your pantry for sugary snacks, but also "milking" insects that secrete tasty fluids the ants enjoy (like aphids, beetles, even some caterpillars)."

Hmmmm... yep I was a lot skinnier when I ate a repetitious diet and only splurged once in a while! ;)

Ants are Herders!

"If you think humans are the only ones capable of having dairy farms, think again. Ants have herds of cattle too, but instead of cows and goats they herd scale insects, mealy bugs, and their favorites here in the Northeastern U.S., aphids. They not only milk their cattle(by means of a complex routine of stroking and patting) but they also protect them from predators, move them from plant to plant, and even create structures to keep them in."

Wow.... so ants actually herd and cultivate their food. Amazing!

Fight till Death!

"Ferocity Ants are famous for being dogged fighters who will keep on battling even as they are literally being torn limb from limb. It's not uncommon to see an ant emerge from combat with the decapitated heads of enemy ants attached to her, jaws locked in a death grip. But this anecdote, from no less an historical figure than the German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer, tops them all. According to him, if you cut a living Bulldog ant in half, the two sections (one armed with mandibles, the other with a stinger) will fight against each other!"

Thank God He has given us a conscience and the choice to continue a fight or pick our fights... I can't imagine 'being programmed' to fight till death! And one can really think about how often and how many times we do fight in ourselves against ourselves.

Ants as Pest Killers

"Ironic, seeing as ants are often considered pests themselves. Nonetheless, they are very important in keeping down the populations of other more destructive insects like termites, crop eating caterpillars and beetles, etc. Throughout the world, ants have been collected and encouraged to live in and protect orchards. A single colony of Wood ants will destroy 50,000 - 100,000 insects every day, so they have a large impact on the forests where they live. "

Now I had no idea that ants were kept in some places to keep away other pests!!! This is a real thought... perhaps we are on the wrong track with pesticides. What to learn from this tidbit? There is a place for us all, a role, a job. We each have a role no matter our talents or personality God has given us! Even the child who has been born with no bodily functioning has a role and fulfills some aspect or need that God deems so. Perhaps they fulfill someones need to love something.... so yes, we all have a purpose.

"After reading all the other items on this list, consider that the time spent by ants in their nests is in total darkness. That means they raise their crops, herd their cattle, raise their young, all without using their vision. They even tunnel out their often huge nests without so much as a flashlight, and have to coordinate their efforts with other workers through touch, as they lack speech also."

Now this as a mother is simply amazing. I can't imagine not having my eyes to perform the daily necessities that are required in attending to children! And, to have no speech as well! Simply double amazing!

So let me get this straight.... Ants are Highly Industrious, Healthy Herders whom often fight till death, each having a role and often provide humans in ridding of other pests, live completely in the dark and with no speech somehow adequately live a detailed and organized life communicating with other ants and providing for each and everyone's needs.

Perhaps we humans should be more like ants????

Properly "Green" Clean Oven "Chemistry Class"
I get a lot of customers whom want to know how to clean their ovens properly and green friendly as well. Not all homeowners have self cleaning ovens and so here are my tips. You can purchase unfriendly cleaners at the store, meaning "not green" or you can try this Green Friendly tip below... So join my Chemistry Class!

You know how you find that yucky burned material on the sides and walls of your oven? Do you ever wonder what exactly it is, besides burnt food? Well much of it consists of carbon. Yep. You are now officially in Chemistry Class! Hehe So here is how you fight the carbon:

Baking soda is amazing at fighting carbon. I like to use a spray bottle with some baking soda and water to clean my oven. Now if you make the mixture too thick it can clog the spray bottle parts but you can also just use a simple rag with some soda and water on it. If you do choose to make a spray bottle mixture be sure and mix it well by shaking first before using. With you oven cold... contrary to those cleaners you buy at the store... with a cold oven use your baking soda mixture and spray the gunk. I like to do this once a day. Go ahead and keep on cooking as usual. No worries! The baking soda will slowly break down all that carbon and burned food gunk. And, baking soda is safe in case any gets in your food. In the end you will end up with a light powder which you can wipe off the floor of your oven easily. The key here is to apply the baking soda over and over and never scrub the oven itself until you see the powder on the floor of the oven ready to be wiped off.
So to conclude on Chemistry lesson: sodium bicarbonate which is baking soda eats carbon! YAH! Using this simple technique will yield you a green friendly and clean oven, in theory, given that you apply the baking soda water mixture often.

Note that the baking soda won't work unless you also add in the water, or H2O. This is the activating ingredient, so always apply wet baking soda.

Well, first you can call us and we will pick them up for FREE in Henderson, Polk, or Transylvania counties or with a $10 charge in Buncombe county. After that we see to it that if they are in working order they are placed with a needy family. If they are not in a good working order then we take off the parts that are salveable and can reuse them for customers who can't afford full price parts or we can sell them. Last, we make sure all the metal is recycled at a local metal yard. This process saves thousands of metal yearly from being improperly disposed of and hurting our environment. Yes I can.

Of course, you know I believe in my own business and the pricing. We offer Flat Rates. Everyone is charged Exactly the same (not by the 15 min) and you can get a coupon off my coupons page, but if you cannot afford to have a repair done or an install here are some tips for you.

1. If the repair is going to cost you too much- Of course we never like appliances to be wasted or to go in landfills. Environmentally speaking its best o repair your appliance But, sometimes this isn't fiscally responsible. So, in that instance I suggest buying used. There is nothing wrong with buying a used appliance! In fact, you can get some pretty darn good deals. If you buy a used appliance get the seller to write you a bill of sell and include on there that if you want to have it looked over you can do so and they will give you your money back if the appliance has issues. If they are not willing to do that, then do not buy from them. I know it seems harsh but hey, if they are honest they ought to be willing to do this.

2. There are a few places in town that will help needy families with appliances. We tried to start such a project but noone is donating to us right now. This doesn't mean to not ask though, you never know when this might change and we are praying it will. This is frustrating too as we had dreamed of placing many appliances with people but I think most people are trading them in for metal... So, if you have an appliance you do not need and is in good working order, please consider donating to us. If you are in a pickle- there is a church in Brevard that has an appliance ministry also and I have heard good things about them: Anchor Baptist http://anchorbaptist.org

3. You can always give us a call and ask questions and or join our forums to ask a question if you want to try a repair or install yourself. Joining the forums is easy and free. It usually takes one business day for me to approve new members, then you are able to post topics.

But What Appliance Do I Buy? I'm SOOOO Confused!

I get at least one phone call a day with this question. We are not supposed to suggest one brand or another. So, I usually suggest doing these 7 steps to finding your "perfect" appliance that meets your needs.

1. I always suggest buying used first. You CAN find good, sound appliances by buying used. There is no need to always buy new. Yes, you do not get a warranty but hey, you save money bigtime. When you go to check out the appliance for sale ask the right questions. Don't worry about what the person things about you. Be up front and ask what you want to know. Get details. Get a feel for the seller. Use your gut instinct. I believe you can get great deals buying used and besides think of all the appliances you save from the landfill.

2. Peruse and take time to read on the Consumer Reports and other resources. Go one step further, ask around. There is nothing wrong with asking your friends on your social networks, read the reviews written by individuals on the net, etc. An educated person is a wise choice maker.

3. Don't just shop at one store. Shop around. I believe that stores hire individuals who should work for their keep and thus, if they know their stuff their products are probably worth buying. So, shop around. Go to several stores. This is one purchase you don't want to just buy at the place you always go to and don't forget those Mom and Pop shops. Nothing says they won't be as good as the large store. In fact, they tend to honest and will give you the information you need. So, shop shop shop around!

4. Remember little things like to measure first! Best to measure your space than to show up at the store and be dumbfounded... you just wasted gas and time. So measure up!

5. Do you Really need all those fancy gadgets and widgets? NO. I always suggest the simple models. The repairs are easier, cheaper, cheaper cheaper, can I say cheaper again? And, the repairs are faster. There are some models which the components can take up to 3 weeks to receive. So, simple is better. Remember not to be a Jones. One must not live up to the Jones. Just because SuzieQ had to have a Princess model doesn't mean you do. Trust me, you'll thank me in 4 years when you need a repair done. Get what you need to fulfill your needs and move on to your next purchase.

6. Yes, the type of appliance you own can reflect and have an impact on the resell value of your home so when you purchase your appliances and you are considering my above comments, well, yes, if you are going to sell your home in a few years then it might be worth the extra money and risk to buy higher end. Call your local real estate agent who you adore and just ask. And, I can give you this advice so if you need the number of who I trust, call me.

7. Last but not least, remember to check the latest recalls lists. This is important whether buying new or used. I like to post these on my blog but I don't get them all so just click on the widget on my first page, and peruse away. Best to check. After all, its the safety of your family or business. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Kohler Courage Engines

Units: About 10,000

Manufacturer: Kohler Co., of Kohler, Wis.

Hazard: A wire connector on the engine can become disconnected causing the operator’s seat switch to fail. When this happens, the blades will not shut down, posing a laceration hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: This recall involves Kohler Courage twin-cylinder engines sold with three brands of lawn tractors: Husqvarna, Cub Cadet, and Troy-Bilt. The vertical-shaft gasoline engines range in horsepower from 20 to 25. Engines included in this recall have serial numbers with the first five digits beginning with 41028 through 41056. Serial numbers can be found on the black engine cover.

Sold at: Lowe’s, Tractor Supply Company stores, and by authorized Cub Cadet dealers nationwide from February 2011 through April 2011 for between $1,500 and $5,700.

Manufactured in: USA

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the lawn tractors and contact an authorized Kohler dealer or the retail location where the tractor was purchased for a free inspection and repair.

CPSC Alert: Counterfeit Smoke Alarms Distributed in Atlanta

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is urging consumers in the Atlanta area to check their homes for counterfeit smoke alarms. About 18,500 counterfeit photoelectric smoke alarms were distributed for free in the Atlanta area between 2006 through May 2011 as part of the Atlanta Smoke Alarm Program. The smoke alarms can fail to alert consumers in the event of a fire.

The Atlanta Fire Rescue Department, which distributed the free smoke alarms as part of a fire safety campaign, is recalling the smoke alarms and is working to provide free smoke alarm inspections and replacement units. Consumers who received these alarms should immediately contact the Atlanta Smoke Alarm Recall Hotline at (404) 546-2733.

The counterfeit alarms can be identified by a silver Underwriters Laboratories' UL label on the back and three sets of vented slots on the front. The UL label is counterfeit. The alarms do not have a model number or brand name printed on them. "Important: Refer to Manual for Operating Instruction and Safety" and "Do Not Paint" are stamped into the plastic on the front of the alarm in both English and German. The package states, "This Smoke Alarm save [sic] life and property by early warning!" Claims that smoke alarms can "save property" are not typical claims for smoke alarms. The packaging states, "10 YEAR LIFE LITHIUM BATTERY," but the battery included with the smoke alarm is a carbon zinc, industrial, heavy duty battery, which will power the alarm for only one year.

CPSC's independent testing of the smoke alarms determined that the alarms pose a life safety hazard to the occupants in the event of a fire. The alarms perform poorly and inconsistently and do not meet voluntary standards requirements in Underwriters Laboratories' (UL) 217, Single and Multiple Station Smoke Alarms and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 72, Fire Alarm and Signaling Code. The smoke alarms' sensitivity settings varied greatly between the alarms tested. Some alarms did not respond within an adequate time for life safety and other alarms did not respond at all.

CPSC has worked with the voluntary standards organizations to improve smoke alarm performance and reliability. Counterfeit alarms can put lives at risk. Working smoke alarms that meet the voluntary standards are proven to save lives. CPSC urges consumers to install smoke alarms on every level of the home, outside sleeping areas and inside bedrooms. Replace batteries at least once every year and test the alarms once a month.

The following product safety recall was voluntarily conducted by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Husqvarna Yard Tractors with TuffTorq K46LD Transaxle

Units: About 1,600

Manufacturer: Husqvarna Professional Products Inc., of Charlotte, N.C.

Hazard: The yard tractor's transaxle can experience intermittent drive failure, posing a risk of reduced or lost braking ability.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: This recall involves orange, Husqvarna yard tractors with TuffTorq K46LD transaxle. Yard tractors included in the recall have model numbers YTH23V42LS and YTH24V48LS and serial numbers ranging from 050110A001000 to 123110D999999. The first six digits of the serial number is a date code. Tractors included in the recall have a serial date range of May 1, 2010 through December 31, 2010. Model and serial information is located on an identification plate attached to the underside of the seat.

Sold at: Husqvarna authorized dealers nationwide from May 2010 through December 2010 for between $2,300 and $2,800.

Manufactured in: USA

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled yard tractors and contact Husqvarna to schedule a free repair at an authorized Husqvarna dealer.

Name of Product: GE Zoneline Air Conditioners and Heaters

Units: About 90,600

Distributor: GE Appliances and Lighting, of Louisville, Ky.

Manufacturer: Sharp Corp., of Osaka, Japan

Hazard: An electrical component in the heating system can fail, posing a fire hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: General Electric and Sharp have received four reports of incidents involving smoke and/or fire with the air conditioning and heating units. In two of the reported incidents, fire extended beyond the air conditioning and heating unit, resulting in property damage. No injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves GE Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners (PTAC) and packaged terminal heat pumps manufactured between January 2010 and March 2011, and are most often used in apartment buildings and commercial space. The GE logo is affixed to the control panel door. Serial and model are printed on the rating plate. Consumers will need to remove the front panel to locate the model and serial information. The following models and serials are included in this recall:

Name of Product: Hamilton Beach® classic chrome 2-slice toasters

Units: About 300,000

Importer: Hamilton Beach Brands Inc., of Glen Allen, Va.

Hazard: The heating element in these toasters can remain energized indefinitely when an item is placed in the toaster which may ignite the contents, posing a fire hazard if the toaster is near flammable items.

Incidents/Injuries: Hamilton Beach has received 15 reports of toasters that did not pop-up as intended, including three reports of minor damage to kitchen cabinets. There were no reports of injuries.

Description: The Hamilton Beach recall involves model 22600 toasters with specific series codes. These series codes begin with the letters C or D, and have the format of CXXXXBI or DXXXXBI, where XXXX is a four-digit number ranging from 0190 through 5290. The model number and series code are printed on the bottom of the toaster. The toaster has a chromed steel exterior, a front control panel with a rotary toast shade selector and function buttons arranged in an arc, a front removable crumb tray and Hamilton Beach printed across the front of the toaster.

Sold at: Mass merchandisers and department, grocery and home center stores nationwide and various online retailers from February 2008 through June 2011 for between $30 and $40.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled toasters and contact the firm to receive instructions on how to obtain a free replacement toaster.

Viking Range Corporation Agrees to $450,000 Civil Penalty for Failing to Report Defective Refrigerators

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced today that Viking Range Corporation, of Greenwood, Miss., has agreed to pay a civil penalty of $450,000. The penalty agreement (pdf) has been provisionally accepted by the Commission.

The settlement resolves CPSC staff allegations that Viking Range Corporation was aware for years of a defect involving its refrigerator door hinge support mechanisms that resulted in incidents and injuries to consumers; yet the firm failed to report immediately to CPSC as required by federal law. Viking reported the safety defect to the Commission in April 2009, and the firm agreed to a recall in June 2009. Subsequent investigation conducted by CPSC staff uncovered that by that time the firm was aware of at least 10 reports of injuries involving Viking refrigerator hinge failures going back over several years.

CPSC and Viking Range Corporation announced a recall of more than 45,000 Viking refrigerators in June 2009. The hazard identified with the refrigerators is that refrigerator hinges and hardware that attach the doors to the refrigerator box can loosen, sag and detach, posing an impact injury hazard to consumers if the door detaches. Viking sold the refrigerators through appliance and specialty retailers from July 1999 through April 2006.

Federal law requires manufacturers, distributors and retailers to report to CPSC within 24 hours after obtaining information reasonably supporting the conclusion that a product contains a defect which could create a substantial product hazard, creates an unreasonable risk of serious injury or death, or fails to comply with any consumer product safety rule or any other rule, regulation, standard or ban enforced by CPSC.

In agreeing to the settlement, Viking Range Corporation denies CPSC staff allegations as to the existence of a defect or hazard or that it violated the law.

Hazard: The thermostats can overheat, causing them to melt and smoke. This poses a burn hazard to the consumer.

Incidents/Injuries: Honeywell has received 16 reports of thermostats melting. There have been no reports of injuries.

Description: The recalled thermostats are rectangular, white, programmable thermostats used to control electric baseboard and fan heaters. “Honeywell” or “Cadet” is printed on the front of the thermostats that come in various sizes. The model number and four-digit date code are printed on a label inside the front cover of the thermostat. The model numbers listed below are included in this recall. Only models with date codes beginning with 00, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05 or 06 are included.

Hi, this is Kimberly, Joe's wife, writing today...

Well it's been a year and ten months since we opened and God has truly blessed us as a family and company. When Joe told me he wanted to open his own business I thought he was close to nuts, especially in an economic meltdown period... but he was right and listened to the Lord.

It's been a rocky year, teaching us to depend on the Lord. There have been times of great profit and then there have been the lulls. It's funny how just when you think you have it all figured out and we humans tend to forget who really is in charge of it all, when we tend to start feeling like we are doing everything on our own, that God will ease back on the business and cash flow, reminding us who is really in charge. You might not believe in things like this, but I have seen a direct correlation to when I'm trusting the Lord and putting Him first, and our business.

I also see this in our family. You know, when we mothers pray first thing in the morning and set our priorities straight, ask the Lord for when and how to respond to issues, and last just keep a constant awareness of the Lord's presence; life is just easier and my children respond better also. Oh now I've gotten off on a tangent.

I was writing today to just mention and be thankful for our blessings. I have been watching the Japanese go through so very much. You know, we Americans are so lucky and so blessed. I wish there were more we could do for them other than just pray. But prayer is powerful! We are also so blessed and thankful for all those we have met through our business. We have met so many wonderful and diverse people with such great stories to tell. We began homeschooling about a year and half ago also. I have been astounded at the number of fellow homeschoolers we have met! Joe consistently comes home with a new story to relay from those he met that day. His heart is burdened for some of them... this economy has really made it difficult on our seniors. He also has funny stories to tell. It is a part of my day I look forward to.

In summation, we are just so thankful and blessed to be in America, working for Americans. Thank you for allowing us to be part of your lives as well.

Improved refrigerator demand has Whirlpool Corp. looking to hire 100 to 150 more workers at its Middle Amana plant.
The Middle Amana plant is a production facility and design center for bottom-freezer refrigerator models, called bottom mounts.
“The increase is due to both our typical seasonal increase as well as some growth in the bottom-mount business,” Whirlpool Director of External Communications Jill Saletta said in an e-mail.
The hires will be full-time hourly assembly positions, primarily on the second and third shifts, Saletta said.
Whirlpool has already added about 400 workers this year to meet summer demand to cover vacations and ordinary departures of workers, Saletta said. College students are often hired at the plant during the summer to cover vacation schedules.
A job fair was held this morning at the plant at 2800 220th Trail, Amana, to accept applications and perform on-site interviews. The company said applicants may also apply through their nearest Iowa Workforce Development Center.
The positions pay $13.70 per hour, plus shift premiums and bonuses.
Summer is often the peak time for refrigerator demand, as consumers move into new homes that need appliances, and as old refrigerators break down due to higher summer temperatures.

(Jul. 28) Appliance manufacturer Whirlpool Corp. has announced plans to build a new office campus that will consolidate and expand its current facilities in Benton Harbor, Mich.

Whirlpool currently operates 15 facilities on owned or leased property, which will be consolidated into three centralized campuses over the next five years. The three campuses will include the existing Benton Harbor Administrative Center and St. Joseph Technology Center locations, and a new three-building campus to be located on Main Street, between River Street and Riverview Drive, in downtown Benton Harbor.

In addition to these three campuses, the company plans to retain its Hilltop Drive South offices in St. Joseph and the Harbor Town offices in Benton Harbor.

"With more than 4,000 individuals in our current facilities, we have simply outgrown our current space,” said Jeff Fettig, Whirlpool’s chairman and CEO, in a prepared statement. “This initiative is a good business decision, as the new campus and related changes are expected to increase productivity and energy efficiency, and reduce operating costs." The new buildings, which must still gain local and state approval, will be highly energy efficient and built to achieve Gold LEED certification, according to Whirlpool.

Meanwhile, Whirlpool's plant in Evansville, Ind., closed for good in June, almost a year after the company announced its intention to shut it down. A Whirlpool design center will remain in Evansville and employ about 300 people. The plant employed more than 1,100 workers a year ago.

Thank you ever so much for a fabulous first year of business! It's been a roller coaster for sure... there have been months I have been slammed and working like a busy bee and then there have been months when God allowed me to rest and contemplate life, giving back some time where needed. Of course, I'd rather be busy busy as that makes me feel like I've got my ducks in a row, bills paid and so on, but the days or weeks when calls are slower to come by then it reminds me of who is in control and how to rely on God. WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.
Name of Product: Dishwashers
Units: About 1.7 million in the United States
Manufacturer: Maytag Corp. of Newton, Iowa or Maytag Corp. of Benton Harbor, Mich.
Hazard: An electrical failure in the dishwasher’s heating element can pose a serious fire hazard.
Incidents/Injuries: Maytag has received 12 reports of dishwasher heating element failures that resulted in fires and dishwasher damage, including one report of extensive kitchen damage from a fire. No injuries have been reported.
Description: The recall includes Maytag®, Amana®, Jenn-Air®, Admiral®, Magic Chef®, Performa by Maytag® and Crosley® brand dishwashers with plastic tubs and certain serial numbers. The affected dishwashers were manufactured with black, bisque, white, silver and stainless steel front panels. The brand name is printed on the front of the dishwasher. The model and serial numbers are printed on a label located inside the plastic tub on a tag near the left side of the door opening. Serial numbers will start or end with one of the following sequences.

Hazard: A wire can break in the machine and make contact with a metal part on the washtub while the machine is operating, posing fire and shock hazards to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: GE is aware of seven incidents in which flames escaped the units and caused minor smoke damage. No injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves GE front-load washing machines without auxiliary water heating. Model and serial numbers are listed in the chart below. Recalled washing machines were manufactured between December 2006 and February 2010. The model and serial numbers are located on the bottom right side and on the bottom door frame of the washers.

At tax time, many consumers are cashing in on tax credits and rebates that come from making their homes more energy-efficient. One key tactic: Buy an appliance approved by the government's Energy Star program. But there is evidence that products with the Energy Star seal don't always live up to their billing.

"We find that not all of the products are as efficient as they claim to be," says Celia Kuperszmid-Lehrman, deputy home editor for Consumer Reports.

The tax benefits are aimed at encouraging homeowners to replace outdated and energy-hungry furnaces and appliances. But Kuperszmid-Lehrman tells NPR's Steve Inskeep that not all of the newer models skimp on power consumption.

"We found, particularly, problems with refrigerators," she says of tests Consumer Reports conducted on certified products.

The magazine reported that two of the refrigerators it tested used about 50 percent more energy than the numbers on their labels. Another pair used 39 percent more and 33 percent more.

Part of the problem, Kuperszmid-Lehrman says, is that the Energy Star program is self-certifying — meaning the government doesn't independently confirm the data it gets from manufacturers.

There are some serious problems ... because you do have manufacturers self-certifying — and you don't have anyone checking on them.

"They're the ones that say, 'Yes, my product is energy-efficient,' " she says. "And for the most part, that's working very well, but there are some serious problems with that, because you do have manufacturers self-certifying — and you don't have anyone checking on them."

In a recent test by the Government Accountability Office, the agency submitted 20 completely bogus products for Energy Star certification. Of the 20 applications, 15 were approved — including one for a gasoline-powered alarm clock.

"One of the things that I found very disturbing about the report, in addition to the bogus products that got the Energy Star" certification, says Kuperszmid-Lehrman, "was how quickly they got the Energy Star — how quickly those products became listed on the Department of Energy's Web site.

"So that if a consumer was looking for a product, they would think that that product was more efficient."

The Department of Energy has said it will soon change the system to include third-party verification.

Kuperszmid-Lehrman says that's a good start — but she also thinks the Energy Star testing system needs to be retooled.

"Many of the tests themselves are woefully out of date, and they don't necessarily replicate the experience that the consumer's going to have in the home," she says.

Still, Kuperszmid-Lehrman doesn't think that people shopping for energy efficiency — and a tax break —- should ignore the Energy Star program altogether.

"I think it's a good relative rating," she says. "But there are instances like I've mentioned with refrigerators, with freezers, that the numbers are not quite what they seem to be."

Howdy everyone! I hope this finds all our readers toasty and snuggled up to someone they love! ;)
Yep, you got it... this is Kimberly, ArchAngel's wife...

You know once and a while I write tidbits about life in general, not just our appliance repair business. Joe and I collaborate together on great appliance answers for you guys, but life is more than just a business, you know?

So today I'm sending out encouragement to everyone out there! Whether you are single or married, I'm hoping this touches your heart today...

You know, I prayed for a year and eight months to find my husband, Joe after having been put through a nasty divorce. In that time God allowed me to be tested. I had two millionairs begging for me to date them, one friend whom was endearing and patient and would have been perfect where it not for my knowing that wasn't what God wanted, and numerous other offers... but with patience and follow through I waited for what 'seemed' an eternity. See, I thought God would fix my ex-husband and bring him home, but he didn't. When I finally realized that I was devastated but held onto the fact that I know that: Romans 8: 28
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him,[a] who[b] have been called according to his purpose."
So, God has Some purpose for me having gone through all that horrible stuff!

In all actuality, I have prayed all my life for that just special someone but had jumped the gun twice and go married before hearing from God. Anyways, I gave God this huge detailed list providing every thing I could think of that I needed in a husband. I look back at that list and think, Wow, God you must have been swaying from the all encompassing list of 'needs'. I mean, who would have thought to put and I quote "Man who likes my toes" on the list? Well, I did. I had all the usual things, Man who changes his own oil and isn't afraid of dirt... Man who is brazen and strong, ready to defend me.... Man who loves the Lord with all his might... Man who is willing to travel and see new things with me, new foods, new music, new peoples.... Man who works and is not lazy... Man who loves me for me and would never cheat... Man who was spiritually blind to the powers of the adulterous or pornography... Man who likes Mexican food... Man who enjoys dancing... Man who loves attending church with me... Man who loves my children... Man who... and so on. Of course at the time I was praying and considering how I too could be that perfect wife for that perfect someone... but the list all in all was pretty "Me" centered.

Have you ever prayed over a list of things you wanted... sending up minute details that just HAD to be accomplished? Maybe it wasn't even something concerning someone. Maybe you wanted to start a business or buy a house. Maybe you had a dream...

Well, in my case, I got my answer! God brought me Sir Joe.... or Joe Bob as I like to call him. It has been a whirlwind three years... In three years we have started a home and blended two families, manned three huge gardens, taken on our step-son, began homeschooling, bore two beautiful daughters, quit a steady job and opened a business, opened an art gallery and watched it go bust, and learned to love each other more and more. But, in three years' time you know there have been struggles. And, this is why I'm writing today.

We have been so lucky and God has kept us in the palm of His hands until just recently when some things in our lives just weren't clicking. And through it all I've learned some important lessons which I'd like to convey to yall if you're interested...

Number one... it is so good to write down the positive things in life. I love just writing or talking out loud to God and saying thank you. You know, Thanks God for having someone invent toilets! Because, jeepers that would be just one more thing for me to clean up! Or thank You God for whomever invented lycra! My butt thanks you! Or how about thank You God for cheese.... wow, some feta cheese on a salad just makes the world go round! I'm consistently noticing things to be thankful for...

Number two... it is so important to be thankful for our spouses and or loved ones. If you really think about it, what all do they do for you in a day? Do they really work day in and day out for the fun of it? I know, some people do and I know I love my job as so does Joe... but it would be great to just golf all day or putt around a museum... and not work. Each day a person spends in our life is such a treasure! Just like my parents dying at age thirty four and thirty five... life is short. When a person chooses to spend their time and lives with us, what a blessing! They could be elsewhere! So be sure and be thankful for the work those around ya put in.

Number three... you gotta take the pepper with the salt. You know, you are never gonna find that perfect someone! They will always let you down because we are all humans and only God is perfect! And, besides that... God takes us how we are! He doesn't put stipulations on us! He says comes on down! Just like on the Price is Right... Come on Down! Not, you know, come on down if you look nice today, or if you treat me nice or provide something for me... or if you make me laugh... or if you just don't get on my nerves. He takes us as we are. So whenever someone disappoints us its so important to remember that we too will probably disappoint them at some point too! And, when you get an answer that includes something on your list of what you want in a mate... remember at times that something you wanted will get on your nerves! Sometimes I just wish Joe would pay someone else to do things... for instance! Just sit back relax and watch the pros go for it instead of muddling through... but he is hardheaded. So that is something I've learned, to take the pepper with the salt.

Number four... when you meet someone always try to be the real you. Don't put up facades. Gosh does that get one into trouble!!! You know how it is, the honeymoon period.... Well, when you put up a facade and then can't provide the goods later on.... yowzers!!! Now that leads into number five...

Number five... Grow together. Gosh, this is important. If ya feel your loved ones slipping away there is usually a reason! Grab hold of those stems and pull them back in! Grow, together. You gotta study your spouse or friends! If somebody is really that important to ya they are definitely worth some time! Relationships take time to grow and they can change over night or stay stagnate. You gotta put your spiritual eyes on and pray. Watch and work avidly on growing together and never let you grow apart. Even children and parents can grow apart!!!

Number six... Slow Down! Slow down and enjoy life. Life is so darn short! You have to enjoy those moments of blessings... each little one. The glint in your hubby's eyes, the way his hair falls, the way your kids laugh or gripe at one another for they may not even talk to each other some day, the way your hubby comes home with rough hands from working, for you, the smells of home, you know, just anything that is important to you. Americans are so into material things! Its the little things that count. Watch how your loved ones act! Enjoy how God made them! What a wonderful creation it is....

And last but not least... Number Seven...
Enjoy the role you are in no matter what that role is... we are all given something to provide in this life, a role if you will, a identity... our identity is to worship the Lord and praise Him in all we do! Our identities on Earth could be Mother, Wife, Husband, Father, Elder, Boss, CEO, Single person, Position at a job, and so on. What a priveledge! We could live in somewhere where there is not the option or way to attain roles. We women are so lucky nowadays as well! We are able to choose our roles in life, sometimes. I think changing our attitudes and changing our mindset is crucial to enjoying life and making something of ourselves. Fight, always Fight and never let the powers of darkness get you down. And remember that to love someone you gotta understand how Jesus loved us... and always put them first, even when it hurts. Love just isn't love or just doesn't work until you put it into action and that is being selfless...

And ladies... please please pray for your husbands!!!!!!!! I cannot reiterate that enough! Pray for them. They go out into the world every single day, into a war zone. They need our prayers!

Common Questions About Dryers

-How long is a normal time for clothes to dry?
The typical dryer should dry a medium to large size load of laundry in fourty five minutes. If your dryer is taking longer than that or two cycles then you need to check your vent to see if it is clogged. If your vent system is not clogged you might have another issue like a inner part going out. If so, call us.

-How often should I clean the lint filter? ALWAYS clean your filter out with Every Single Load change. Lent can be a fire hazard!

-What type of vent should I have? Is the white vinyl tubing OK?
This is an important question! Building codes now require you to use only metal ducting. White vinyl ducting is out! The vinyl tends to collect lint which ends up being a fire hazard and the metal ducting seems to let the lent pass through the ducting more smoothly. NEVER use anything but metal ducting.

-Should I oil the motor or rollers? No.
You should never have to oil any inner parts of a clothes dryer. If you begin to hear squeaks or rubbing sounds then you should call us. We can walk you through what your problem may be.

-Is a gas dryer cheaper to run than an electric dryer?
Yes, on average it is cheaper to run a gas dryer versus an electric dryer. When purchasing your dryer ask the salesperson to show you their Energy Star ratings.

-Do dryer softener sheets hurt the dryer?
This is a tricky question. The sheet itself does not harm the dryer although the residue and chemicals within the sheet can gunk up your lint filter as well as some of the inner mechanisms. Try and clean your lint filter screen often. We do not recommend using dryer sheets in our own dryers or our customers. In our opinion the chemicals on the sheets can rust parts as well. So we do not personally endorse them. This is a call each individual must make. The main thing is to clean your lint filter OFTEN. Keep the air flowing at all times.

-Is it important for my dryer to be level?
It is imperative to level your appliances. If the appliance is not level over time the screws and inner parts can become out of line because they are made to work correctly and stay in alighnment with no jostling. If the appliance is not level they are more likely to be able to work themselves loose or cause other damage. Also, dryers' drums move at high rates of speed. So, this is imperative that a dryer be level. Unlevel dryers can cause damage to your flooring also! So be sure your dryers are level.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following products. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Thermador® Built-In Ovens

Units: About 37,000 (42,000 built-in ovens were previously recalled in June 2007)

Manufacturer: BSH Home Appliances Corp., of Huntington Beach, Calif.

Hazard: The ovens can have gaps in the insulation where overheating can occur and when used in the self-cleaning mode it can cause nearby cabinets to catch fire. This poses a fire hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: BSH Home Appliances has received three additional reports of incidents, including two that resulted in fires that damaged surrounding cabinets. No injuries have been reported.

Description: The recall involves Thermador Brand built-in double ovens with model numbers C272B, C302B, SEC272, SEC302, SECD272 and SECD302 and serial numbers between FD8403 through FD8701. Model and serial numbers are located on the underside of the control panel.

Sold at: Appliance and specialty stores nationwide from June 2004 through July 2007 for between $3,000 and $4,400.

Manufactured in: United States

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the oven’s self-cleaning mode and contact the firm to schedule an inspection and free repair, if necessary.

Electrolux ICON® and Kenmore PRO® Gas Ranges Recalled Due to Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Hazard
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Electrolux ICON and Kenmore Pro 30” Gas Ranges

Units: About 900

Manufacturer: Electrolux Home Products Inc., of Augusta, Ga.

Hazard: An incorrect part allows more fuel to pass to the range’s oven than can be burned efficiently, causing incomplete combustion and the release of carbon monoxide. This poses a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Electrolux has received four reports of incidents involving carbon monoxide being released from the recalled gas range. No injuries have been reported.

Description: The following Electrolux ICON and Kenmore PRO 30” free-standing gas range model and serial numbers are included in this recall. For Electrolux ICON, the model and serial numbers are located on the back of the range. For the Kenmore PRO, the model and serial numbers are located near the base of the range just below the bottom right portion of the oven door and also on the back of the range. Not all serial numbers within these ranges are included in the recall.

What I want in a Repair Man

Good morning, or afternoon, folks! I was recently putting together a list of what we want when we hire our new Journeyman Technician. This made me think about the other side of the fence... the one we serve, the layperson. We hold the reigns and it is easy to forget to do this. What would I want in a Repair Man??? What do our customers want in a Repair Man?
So I thought I would list just what I would want in a Repair Man....

-I want someone who listens, really listens to me the customer and what the appliance is doing. Not someone who half listens and just gets to work. Many times the tech can miss something because they didn't listen.
-I would want someone who loves their job and doesn't look at it like a job.
-Someone who was respectful and had a good background, definitely not a prior burglar.
-Someone who respect their elders... seems to me someone like this would treat anyone kindly.
-Someone who is knowledgable about what they do and willing to admit when they don't know what they are doing.
-Take that one step further... someone who has the resources to figure out what else needs to be done or who to ask the questions to get the information.
-Someone willing to get further training where needed.
-Someone who likes to go the extra mile, say I have something I need lifted that is too heavy for me. So what if it takes the guy a few extra minutes.
-A technician who is thorough through and through.
-One who is interested in my and my family's safety. Maybe he could give me tidbit information.
-I could go on and on and on!!!!

"This position is a trainee position to become a repair technician responsible for the repair of appliances in the customer’s home.
Products repaired include the following home appliances: Washers & Dryers, Gas & Electric Stoves, Microwave Ovens, Dishwashers, Trash Compactors, Garbage Disposers, Refrigeration, and other major home appliances.

Dishwasher Cleaning Quickly and Easily
Washing your dishwasher? Doesn't that sound kind of like overkill? After all, doesn't the dishwasher wash itself every time you run a load of dirty dishes?
As the old song says, "It ain't necessarily so!" Dishwashers need regular routine cleaning just like every large, frequently used appliance in your home.
We don't always take the time to scrape and rinse food from plates and bowls before putting them into the dishwasher. Tiny bits of food, grease and soap scum cling together and are deposited in corners of the dishwasher and in crevices around the door. After a time, they can accumulate significantly and become a problem with appearance and odor. This is really quite logical when you think about it. Notwithstanding the fact that dishwasher soaps have some germ killing properties along with degreasers, any environment which is frequently warm, moist and dark is a breeding ground for many forms of bacteria.
A routine dishwasher cleaning is a good habit and should be included with the routine deep cleaning of your home. After you get the hang of it, you can clean your dishwasher quickly and easily.

How to Clean Your Dishwasher And Remove Odor
Using a small brush (old toothbrushes work well) dipped in hot soapy water, go around the door of the dishwasher taking care to get into the grooves and crevices of the rubber seal. Most likely, you'll be surprised at the debris that has built up, especially at the bottom of the door and around the hinges on the side.
Scrub well. You may need to use a soft abrasive cleanser, such as Soft Scrub® to remove the dried and baked on grime.
Using a household sponge dipped in hot soapy water, wipe off the dirt and grime that you stirred up with the brush. Go over the inside of the door and scrub any obvious areas inside the dishwasher that may have stuck-on food, such as out of reach corners.
Pull the bottom rack out and examine the drain area. Wipe around it to be sure there are no hard chunks that can plug the drain, cause damage to the pump or scratch dishes. You'd be surprised at what dishwasher repairmen find - bones, crab shells, chips of glass, and even small pieces of gravel!
Using a clean wet sponge or dishrag, wipe the cleaning solution from the gasket and the door.
Then place a dishwasher-safe cup filled with plain white vinegar on the top rack of the dishwasher. Using the hottest water available, run the dishwasher through a cycle - except for the cup of vinegar, the dishwasher needs to be empty.
The vinegar will help to wash away the loose, greasy grime, sanitizes, and helps remove the musty odor.
If you don't have any white vinegar, you may substitute a packet of unsweetened lemonade mix in the soap cup. Don't experiment with other flavors as they may stain the inside of your dishwasher.
Baking soda is also effective at freshening and brightening your dishwasher. Just sprinkle a cupful around the bottom of the tub and run it through a short but complete cycle using the hottest water. Baking soda is also helpful in removing stains.

Hard Water, Rust, Iron and Mineral Stains in Your Dishwasher
Imagine my disappointment when, after moving into a brand new home with brand new appliances, I noticed a gradual dulling of the inside of my dishwasher (and clothes washer) that looked suspiciously like rust. It was rust! The water from our private well contains some minerals, including iron, which were not removed by a filtration system - we didn't have one. I tried several commercial preparations from home department stores that claimed to effectively remove mineral deposits and stains but they can be pretty toxic and great care must be given in using and storing such products. Although it was a rather expensive fix, I finally invested in a water purification and filtration system for my home. Good move on my part and I have never regretted the expenditure. My tap water is fresh, clean and odor free; the insides of my dishwasher and clothes washer are sparkling again. My white clothing, sheets, wash cloths and bath towels do not have the tell-tale stains, and there are no reddish-brown drips on my sinks!
If you can't stop the mineral or rust stains at the source (replacing rusty pipes, while advisable, may be out of your control), check the laundry detergent section of your large grocery store or home improvement store for products that remove rust stains from clothing or appliances. Place the product into the soap dispenser cup on your dishwasher and also sprinkle some freely on the bottom of the dishwasher. Make sure your dishwasher does not have any dishes in it when you run it through this complete cleaning cycle.

Dishwashing Tips
It is probably not necessary to pre-wash your dishes like some people do, but it is important to scrape off leftover food from plates and bowls. Rinse and then load into the dishwasher.
Use common sense when loading your dishes. Put table ware in the appropriate compartment; placing sharp knives with their tips down.
Don't jam dishes in - give adequate space between plates and bowls to allow the water to circulate freely; likewise, be careful that a large bowl or lid does not block the water spray from reaching the inside of other dishes and drink ware.
Use the hottest water available for washing your dishes in the dish washer. This is necessary for dried-on food removal, for properly melting the dishwashing detergent you use, and for sanitation.
Major detergent and dishwasher manufacturers recommend a water temperature of at least 130° to work effectively.
Many areas have fairly hard water which affects the cleaning properties of detergents. For that reason, we recommend filling both detergent cups and using a rinsing agent, as well.

Gel Detergents
Mrs. Clean, Inc., does not recommend gel detergents! There are several reasons why.
Gels typically contain bleach - primarily chlorine bleach - which causes rubber seals to break down and leak.
Gels often leave a whitish or cloudy film on glassware.
Gels tend to stick to the inside surface of the dishwasher, never really being rinsed off.
Gels are intentionally thick so that they stick inside the soap cup and don't run immediately into the bottom of the dishwasher. Therefore, they leave a sticky residue inside the soap dispenser, actually cause it to clog and not open during the timed sequence.
Gels are not effective in hard water - and almost always leave spots.

Properly "Green" Clean Oven "Chemistry Class"

I get a lot of customers whom want to know how to clean their ovens properly and green friendly as well. Not all homeowners have self cleaning ovens and so here are my tips. You can purchase unfriendly cleaners at the store, meaning "not green" or you can try this Green Friendly tip below... So join my Chemistry Class!

You know how you find that yucky burned material on the sides and walls of your oven? Do you ever wonder what exactly it is, besides burnt food? Well much of it consists of carbon. Yep. You are now officially in Chemistry Class! Hehe So here is how you fight the carbon:

Baking soda is amazing at fighting carbon. I like to use a spray bottle with some baking soda and water to clean my oven. Now if you make the mixture too thick it can clog the spray bottle parts but you can also just use a simple rag with some soda and water on it. If you do choose to make a spray bottle mixture be sure and mix it well by shaking first before using. With you oven cold... contrary to those cleaners you buy at the store... with a cold oven use your baking soda mixture and spray the gunk. I like to do this once a day. Go ahead and keep on cooking as usual. No worries! The baking soda will slowly break down all that carbon and burned food gunk. And, baking soda is safe in case any gets in your food. In the end you will end up with a light powder which you can wipe off the floor of your oven easily. The key here is to apply the baking soda over and over and never scrub the oven itself until you see the powder on the floor of the oven ready to be wiped off.

So to conclude on Chemistry lesson: sodium bicarbonate which is baking soda eats carbon! YAH! Using this simple technique will yield you a green friendly and clean oven, in theory, given that you apply the baking soda water mixture often.

Note that the baking soda won't work unless you also add in the water, or H2O. This is the activating ingredient, so always apply wet baking soda.

IT'S SNOWING!!! What can we learn from snow???

Morning Folks! Yep, you got it, this is ArchAngel's wife Kimberly...

The kiddos awoke this morning all excited to see the snow! My two year old has never seen snow and it was such a treat to watch her face light up! In fact, she just crawled back in bed I think because of all the excitement!

Funny, how something so small as snow can delight and amaze little ones...
I wish many times that we adults felt the same way but we tend to get all caught up in the rush rush rush of life. We have spent the better part of our morning rescheduling our calls for the day as they were all in N Asheville and Weaverville areas.
Maybe God lets it snow snow snow to slow slow slow us down???
This will give us some time to enjoy the day peacefully without being pulled with the wants and needs of life.... My teen daughter just asked me if we could go shopping later this evening!!! Now, hmmmm.... this is a lesson indeed. If I can't get out nor my husband get out to fulfill our daily work, would it not make sense that we wouldn't go shopping? If we can't assist our customers for the day because of snow it makes sense to me that we wouldn't be out frolicking around... Teens and children are so funny!
Yes, we can learn a lot from a day of snow that is God-sent. I suppose we probably will learn even more as the day goes through... maybe even some fun lessons! We have plans to make a ''snow couch'' as my teen son calls it. WHY? I have no clue. I guess its more of that ''random'' stuff they get from I Carly!

So, folks love the ones you love, stay safe and be careful, and let's all take some time to "Slow Snow" down...

Discounts for Persons of Need

We got a call today asking us if we discount for persons of need.

Yes, we do. In order to qualify for services, if you deem yourself a person of need we ask that you simply have your local clergyman, pastor, or minister (depending on your religious beliefs) or a local social service agency like Council on Aging, SS, WCCA, etc. to refer you to us. We have an application that you can fill out once you have been referred to us through them.

We believe in helping our fellow citizens and that God calls us to do unto others as we would have done to us. We cannot discount or give free services for all individuals, sadly, as we would love to do so. Therefore we will use the information given us via your clergyman or application information and make a decision from there. Please keep in mind that we are a business and have overhead but at the same time pray over each and every decision especially concerning volunteer work.

We ask that clergyman refer individuals to us when you see fit as well. We rely heavily upon your guidance and discretion in whom you refer.

These are tough times for everyone. We personally live on faith as well and have a large family we care for so we understand your plights. Just take the steps above and we will see if we can meet your needs.

New Year’s Creative Writing Contest

We have a new contest for students under age 19. Here are the details:

Creative Writing Prompts: New Year's Eve

1. Have you ever been to one of the famous New Year's Eve sites like Times Square in New York? Talk about your experiences there if you have, and if you haven't, craft a story of your journey to a big event and what thoughts you had while there. Why do you think people put so much emphasis on one day of the year?
2. Compare and contrast one New Year's resolution that you've kept and one that you let slip by. How did you make sure that the one that worked stayed in your life and why did the other one fall away? If you had a choice (and you do) how could you get the absent one to work right now? How could what we learn in the Bible and from God help you to stick with your resolutions?
3. What are your top five resolutions that you would put into affect today if it was New Year's Eve? Write a story of you trying to accomplish them. Include some Biblical ideals that could help you to stick with your resolutions. Who knows, maybe you'll come up with some good ideas as a result.
4. In an attempt to drive back home for New Year's, your car has become stuck in a snow storm! You're not even exactly sure where you are, but you pull off an exit to wait it out at a diner. The snow does not stop. What happens next?
5. Have you ever opted for a non-tradition, away from the party New Year's Eve? Talk about that if you have, and if you haven't, craft a tale of an interesting event that most would consider off the beaten path for this type of celebration.
6. Create a character that is making a recap of his year on the evening of New Year's Eve while sitting at home. He is contemplating a massive change in his life and he is hoping to avoid that change by proving that his year was "good enough." Express his thoughts in a dialogue between him and an angel of God who was sent to help him.

NEED A NEW STOVE/ OVEN ELEMENT?

Have you ever gone to cook something and noticed your stove/oven just not heating like it used to? How about the lady we helped this week who went to clean her oven and upon touching the element it actually disintegrated in her hands! Wowzers, now that element really kicked the bucket!!!
You know oven elements just don't last forever. All that heat and cool, heat and cool tends to take an affect on metal! So, for those of you Do-It-Yourselfers here is a quick list on how to replace your oven element yourself.

How to Remove and Replace the Element

First you will need to find your model number and manufacturer name. There is a page on our main website at www.archangelappliancerepair.com that can help you with this.
Next, go to Sears.com and check out their parts page using your model number. You can get the parts number you need here but I would order it from a different source.... expensive there. You can also see their diagrams of each model as well. You can phone us if you need assistance with this too as we will be selling parts soon.
ALWAYS Turn off the power to the oven at the breaker box and unplug the oven.
Next you want to remove the screws that secure the element to the oven and pull it four or five inches away from the wall (back wall).
Unscrew the screws that hold the wires to the prongs on the element. Make sure and pay attention to the way your wires are attached so you can reattach the new element in the same manner.
Yah! Now you can install your new oven element. Attach the wires as they were before making sure to secure the element to the back wall.
Last you can plug your oven back in and turn on the breaker.
It's a good idea to test your work. Sometimes the new element smokes a bit on the first heating. This is just a factory coating being burned off. So there are no worries there. I usually don't use it for cooking until I've let it cycle through at least one good time.

Job Description - Appliance Repair and Installation Technician Trainee
This position is a trainee position to become a repair technician responsible for the repair of appliances in the customer’s home.
Products repaired include the following home appliances: Washers & Dryers, Gas & Electric Stoves, Microwave Ovens, Dishwashers, Trash Compactors, Garbage Disposers, Refrigeration, and other major home appliances.
This position provides timely and quality repairs of customers’ products while maintaining high customer service. The technician is the first line contact with the customer and therefore represents our company.
Must be willing to train to troubleshoot, repair, install, and test the products.

Qualifications:
Must demonstrate prior work and or school experience to be able to prove ability to fulfill job requirements. We will train the right individual. Computer literate, Clean Driving Record a must. High School or Equivalent. Technical School and EPA certification a Plus.
Work as a dedicated team member to ensure fast, flexible and expert service to every customer.
Demonstrate a sense of urgency to meet customer time commitments-Punctuality
Successfully complete all training elements in satisfactory time frames and successfully PASS necessary state testing. Will Not be promoted to Full Service Technician until Lead Technician deems fit and ready to perform duties as well as fully complete all "training quadrants".
Be able to lift 70 + pounds on a continuous basis.
Be computer literate and able to learn computer programs of various natures.
Provide knowledgeable and courteous repair service. Be able to communicate satisfactorily with both customers and company team members.
Continuously look for methods to improve business performance and enhance the customer experience.
Maintain truck stock inventory within the prescribed company guidelines and standards. Once being promoted to Full Technician you will man your own truck but as a trainee you will ride along with another Full Technician.
Follow the truck maintenance schedule and keep a clean, organized truck
Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned- Additionally, technician trainee will provide inventory backup or office work when calls are not scheduled, not in training, or not doing field work. Trainee positions are to be aware watch and learn and to assist whenever possible in your hands-on learning.
Be willing to sign an employment contract detailing job description of the position being offered and accepted; The compensation that will be paid; Whether the employment is for a set length of time or at will; Specifics regarding vacation time and sick leave and whether such time accrues from year to year; And the responsibilities of both parties with regards to the work to be done and the work environment.

Hazard: An incorrect part allows more fuel to pass to the range’s oven than can be burned efficiently, causing incomplete combustion and the release of carbon monoxide. This poses a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning to consumers.
Incidents/Injuries: Electrolux has received four reports of incidents involving carbon monoxide being released from the recalled gas range. No injuries have been reported.

TO BUY NEW OR NOT TO BUY???

THAT IS THE QUESTION!!!

Now that is truly the twenty point question for sure!!!

There are so many answers to this question depending on what type appliance you are seeking and what price range or brands you are interested in. To help you out, though, we are suggesting you do these things:

First, make a list of all the amenities you want in your new appliance. Now, go down the list and put in order your list of needs from least to greatest. Last, scrutinize your list and see if there are any amenities or gadgets that you can do without. By making a short but comprehensive list of needs you will be able to narrow down which brands will offer the appliance that will best suit your needs. Also, this will help you get out of that "Buyer's I want it ALL Mode". By taking time to decipher our REAL needs, you can save yourself some real money!!! Last, ask yourself, "Am I a person who wants a, _____ fill in the blank, that looks good- performs well- is hardy- fancified- or whatever? Do I need the appliance to just work or do I want it to make me look good or improve home value?" Get to the core of why you need this new appliance.... Brainstorming on paper always helps to make a level headed decision.
Second, we suggest you give us a call! We love to give sound advice. We won't completely endorse any one brand or another due to legal issues but we can send you in the right direction for sure! We know people in town whom we would trust buying from and whom are "straight shooters" as well.
Third, get out those Consumer Reports Magazines or get online at their website. Taking a little time to research the field you are buying in can really save you money. They have unbiased reports you can peruse as well as Environmental tips on buying Environmentally Friendly appliances.
Fourth, Ask your neighbors! Ask all your friends and family about their appliances. What has met their needs?
Fifth, Do you know a real estate salesperson??? If you do, phone them next for sure!!! Chances are they are gonna be in the know about which appliances you can trust and what will improve the value of your home. They will know what insurers prefer as well as potential buyers.
Sixth, and last, take a deep breath and go with your gut, or if you are the praying mind, pray on it. I always believe that if you listen to yourself, your gut, and listen to God, you will make a good buying decision. If you have done your homework and researched the appliance.... If you have made your wants list and know what you need to meet you needs....
At this point you should know: What you want, why you want it, whom to purchase from, what your friends and family think, what will make your home more pleasing in the potential need to sell, and last that you are comfortable with the decision you have made!

Go buy that new appliance!!!! And, the very last tidbit is finally give us a call to haul off that old appliance and have her recycled. She would be ever so sad in a huge landfill!!!

Clogged Refrigerator Drain???

Got a Clogged Refrigerator?

Here lately we have had multiple calls for clogged drains in refrigerators. This happens because of ''what grows where the water goes''....

Here are some tips for you Do It Yourselfers!

First, to Prevent this from happening to your Fabulous Fridge:If you can visually see your drain in the back of the freezer, then you can take a turkey baster with hot water and lemon juice and squirt it down the hole. The lemon juice will naturally 'eat' away grime and clean it as well as prevent more grime from growing.

If you cannot see your drain in the back of the refrigerator it can be behind a panel in the rear of some side by sides. It might also be behind the panel in back in a top mount unit. In this case it is easier to phone us unless you are technically sound. You will need your manual and or a diagram from the internet.

Second, If your drain is already clogged then you may need to unplug the unit and use your hair dryer and a turkey baster with hot water to fix your drain. Use the hair dryer to thaw out the frozen substances and then use the turkey baster with lemon water to clean it as above. You may have to alternate the procedure over and over but with some time and amazing lemon juice you should be alright.

Remember to clean your drain pan often as well! If your refrigerator cannot flow properly you will indeed get ''gunked up'' as well as cause more issues like floor damage.

TOWN TOOTING THANKFULNESS!!!

Are you feeling discouraged today? Do you feel like the world is pressing down upon you? A mounting list of bills to catch up, people to phone, children to tend to, jobs to complete, business appointments or travel, your boss changing rules or quotas, company revamping, housework undone, post it notes upon post it notes, family issues, past memories, social anxieties, peer pressure, feel you're just not good enough or don't know where or how to tackle everything, thoughts clouding your mind, and so on....

Today, are you just tired?

I know it sounds trite... but I understand.

I so understand. You see, I lost my parents to drunk drivers when I was eleven years old. I had the 'beaver cleaver' life. I just woke up one day and whammo, they were gone. If you think about it, its like living in the Time Zone miniseries except it was my life. And sense then have lived through numerous other sad struggles. I won't go into the details but just know that you are not alone. I bet actually that you couldn't come up with but maybe three things I've not been through... and your friends as well. We all have been through so much. The world we live in today pretty much guarantees that you are going to be discouraged and if you are like me and believe in God than you are going to know that there is opposition whom wants you to be discouraged. If you don't believe in God well you have common sense that just says you know this is just life and I have to go on.

But just going on doesn't always help.

You know, we all must face the not so fun parts of life. It seems sometimes that for every happen thing that happens to us there are sometimes two or more sad things that come as well. Job in the Bible lived through some pretty tough times of trials. He felt all alone at times but in the end realized that all God allowed for him to go through was done because it made him a stronger person....

Now, I know that doesn't always make someone feel better, so try this:

Know that you are not alone. That is such a huge realization to know and realize that you are not alone. We are all pressured and sometimes feel oppressed. Our world is so fast paced...

I'd like you to take a moment, go ahead and give yourself permission.
Take a moment.
Now close your eyes.
Forget all those things mounting upon the mountains in your mind... just breathe. Breathe...
Just take a few minutes to think of nothing. Nothing at all.

Now, take out a sheet of paper and write ten things you are thankful for today. Just write ten things you are thankful for with a few spaces in between each one. If you can think of more go for it!!!

Now out to the side of those ten things write to whom you can be thankful for those things. Perhaps someone bought you something you needed, or your job provided it for you... perhaps you mom remembered to buy you that item you asked for... or you wife stocked the cabinet for you... perhaps you are thankful for the sky above or for the invention of fire to warm you. Whatever it is or whomever you are thankful to, no matter your beliefs, just write to whom you are thankful for those things.

Hmmmm.... if you were honest, do you see how many things you really are thankful for? You should, if you were honest and put some thought into it, be surprised at just how lucky you are. And WOW look how many people are integral in your life and provide something for you...

Here is my list:
1. home- Joe for working for the money to have and our landlord for lending it to us
2. children- God and their fathers
3. that dollar bill I found in my pants yesterday, just in time for a sweet tea at MickeyD's- my absent mindedness... and God for helping me find it just in the nick of time! ;)
4. that free blizzard coupon I found too in the coin holder! ;) my hubby who forgets when he tucks things places
5. new can opener- to my motherinlaw who remembered I desperately needed one and whoeve invented the darn thing
6. canvases- for Linda my friend who always gets used canvases for me
7. Rita- God for "inventing" her my best buddy
8. camera- my Nanny
9. laughter- God for the ability to laugh and the invention of it
10. computer to hear 106.9 Light and Family Life Today- well there are so many people who are part of 106.9 Light, Family Life Today and more, the electric company, technology, and so on, but the computer, well again hubby
11. hubby- for God to have given me a third chance at love and creating a man like He did in my hubby, to not be alone, for the molding and for all the hurts Joe did go through and all the bad decisions, for all the skills and positive things too, for his heart and insight and wisdom, God did good and is still doing good
gosh I could go on and on....

Now, pick the most important three items you are thankful for. If whomever helped to provide those things are tangible to you than take some time to write them a simple thank you note. Nothing fancy, nothing that takes a million hours or eloquent verse...
just say thank you.
and if whoever provided it for you is not tangible whether it be God or a past on friend or parent, still write that note!
It feels so good to just let it out.... the thankfulness

Perhaps someone else out there needs to know that even though they have those mountains mounting up against them they are appreciated.
If we all take a few moments to spread some gratitude around perhaps we can all lift each other up. If enough people do this excercise it is bound to spread to everyone in the world. Can you imagine if everyone in our little town, our county, our part of the Carolinas, our State, our Nation.... if we all received a letter of gratitude?
I was listening to Family Life today this morning at http://www.familylife.com/site/c.dnJHKLNnFoG/b.3843443/k.809C/FamilyLife_Today.htm?from=hpbrooadcastbox and realized that I too have become discouraged. I highly encourage your listening to today's podcast if you are down.

This time of year I miss my parents more and more. First I have to go through the anniversary of their deaths, then Thanksgiving and Christmas with the kids and without their grandparents... the festivities, the things we have to remember, the events, the business, making time to paint, cleaning house, life and so on. It can be too much. But today they were speaking of Gratitude.... Nancy Leigh Demoss and Barbara Rainey, fellow sisters in Christ. Apparently she has written a fabulous new book about gratitude.

You know we really are blessed in our world today. There are so many people with nothing and even if we have a huge list of things to do this simply means we have people who need us, people who loves us, and people who may not know or understand this yet but do, to care for.
To much is given much is expected....

Why would we whine and grumble or complain about the priveledge of having a long list of things to do... what is the alternative?

So, I thought how can I be more greatful and how can we spread cheer. They suggested we write to friends and family and tell them how thankful we are. Let's all do this. Let's write a simple note to three friends or family members, or whomever you are thankful to.

Wouldn't that be something if on the news in a few days was a headline like this

POST OFFICE OVERWHELMED BY LETTERS BECAUSE OF GRATITUDE

TOWN TOOTING THANKFULNESS

HAPPINESS ABOUNDS IN HENDERSONVILLE

or whatever...

let's spread some gratitude and lift the mountains mounting upon us.

I don't know about you but I am a hands on and visual learner.
I can read and read but give me a picture or actual chance to work something, it sticks in my mind. So I thought this might really help some folks!

DIY Chang your Dryer Heating Element

This is a repost from July... We have had a surplus of this question lately so we thought to repost this for people to find now. ENJOY!

We had a question on our forums which asked how to change the heating element on a dryer. This is something I don't usually recommend folks doing themselves, but am going to post the DIY info here anyways. As always, read our disclaimer on DIY repairs. I wrote this as simple as I can and hope it is understandable. *Also, keep in mind this is a repair once you know that the heating element is your issue and not your thermostat, or the timer or temperature switch. Now this is why I don't suggest doing this yourself....I always recommend changing out each of these because when one goes they all tend to go and why open up your dryer and take time only to find out your have to do it all again, or have me come out all again. Easier to fix it all at once, but since the question was for just the element, here goes....Questions, give me a ring! 828-693-7905Food for thought,ArchAngel

ALWAYS unplug the unit before ever beginning a repair. I know, I know, basic. But, this is the way folks get fried! -You must first find the dryer heating element cabinet. Most are located in the back but a few are located in the front. If you didn't keep your owner's manual... then I suggest going to Sears website and looking at a diagram of your specific dryer. You can look at their parts/ model number page to do so. I detailed in a prior post how to do this, mainly you need your model number and if you are internet savvy this is an easy process. Their prices on parts is high, but the diagrams help if you don't have prior knowledge. This is the most important step though. YOU MUST look at a diagram because different dryers have different types of elements. You don't want to go in and take a part off you don't need to be taking off. I have gone to so many houses where folks have taken things apart and ended up not knowing how to get it back together! Funny for me, not for them!
First you have to determine if screws or clips are holding your compartment shut. Remove these and then you will see the heating element and wires. Use your needle nose pliers to slowly remove the element wires.
Next you might see a oblong can like shaped piece that might be covering your heating element. If so, lean it backwards taking off the hooks holding it in place.Detach the can shaped object that may cover the heating element. Tip the can backward to slip it off the hooks holding it in place. If you don't see this you have a dryer that has easier access.
Next you are gonna take out the screws holding your actual heating element. Go ahead and pull it out.
Replace it with your new heating element and return the screws in place. Make double sure it is secured in your dryer. If you took off a cover/ the oblong shaped piece, put the back as well too. And then you can reconnect the wires you took off in the first place. You now replace the cabinet cover.
Ok, now let's check your work! Turn your dryer on the cycle with no heat.... run outside and see if there is air coming out of your vent. Now, turn on a cycle with heat and do the same. You should see a difference in temp.
Last, I recommend breaking your new element in by running the dryer with no clothes for at least one cycle. Yes, this wastes electricity which we are not a huge fan of, but this takes off any oily residue that was on your element and will keep your clothes from smelling. Not good! Fresh clothes a Must!A last tip is this: NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER use those little dryer sheets for softening!This is the absolute fastest way to slowly kill your dryer.... losing life and time it can perform for you.The dryer sheet chemicals slowly erode the components. These just aren't good at all. If you want to use softener opt for the liquid kinds. Have you ever wanted to find a place where you can meet and get up with other local techs? To just pass the time with someone who understands the daily job and pressure you go through? Have you ever thought that it would be nice to be able to ask someone else what they think about a certain appliance or heating issue you need help with, but didn't feel comfortable asking at work? Did you ever think it would be cool to have a group of buddies, extended, not just coworkers who understand stuff? Do you wish you and your coworkers had a place to gather as well?

We want to make it known that on our main website, in the FORUMS section, at the bottom.... is a place where you can post and meet and greet!

We have found that there is a REAL NEED in our local area for Technicians in Service Fields to have a place to post and get together.

This is just for us!

We spend a great deal of time on our jobs... I remember when working for Sears A&E not having any spare time to talk to the other techs due to servicing 10 and 12 customers a day. So, this gives us a place to talk in a laid back, open atmosphere.

We have added the blogs to our main website at www.archangelappliancerepair.com . We will be forwarding posts from here to there to give people a more all inclusive site in one place. I still like the photo capabilities here better though.

We also have forums there you can join and post DIY Questions, Buying Questions, Local business information and local event information. All you have to do is register, which is fast easy and free and then post away. It does require email confirmation just like any other forum, but we never sell or misuse your information. There is a page with full color photos where you can learn how to find your model numbers necessary for ordering parts. Last there is an about us page with a short tidbit on how we got started and a few references.

Remember, on the forums there are sections for individual appliances. There is also a section for other technicians in the field or other similar fields to meet and greet. We would love to not only be a service company but a community oriented company. So enjoy reading our blogs on our home website as well as posting in forums. It is an easy way to get your questions answered without feeling pressured to make an appointment.

What made you choose to Repair Appliances?

Joe and I were talking about life in general and my recent post about work. I wanted to know why he chose to fix appliances as a job. Sometimes they really throw him for a doozy and I am so impressed by how he figures it all out. Me, now I would NEVER choose to do this for a job. So, I was really interested in finding out how it all happened that he ended up doing this.

Of course his answer was, "Well, they're easier to fix than people!" lol That's my Joe, the comedian... But, really, Its really a long story. So, he told me the long and short of it and then I thought well other folks might be interested as well. So here goes.

I wrote it in the tense of Joe telling me...paraphrased:

"I really wasn't much for schooling.... I never felt challenged enough. So I leaned towards the hands on jobs, or some folks call it blue collar. I've had a lot of jobs early on in life... as a teen I washed dishes in a restaurant, helped my father with his cows, even dug ditches at one job, painted homes and eventually I was working in heating and air conditioning and became allergic to some of the products in the fiberglass duct board. Now, I had made some negative choices early on and that had affected my life greatly. I could have gone on to college or whatever. I didn't have many options but I knew I was good at working with my hands and so I began to look for a job. Gene at Blue Ridge Appliance gave me a position and taught me from the ground up. I am very fond of him and thankful for all he taught me. Once I found something I was good at I figured I would stick with it. If something ain't broke, don't fix it I always say. Over the years I have gone from Blue Ridge to another company to Sears A&E. I found that I enjoyed the comraderie of the small company, the logistics of the larger company, the people pleasing of the small company, and the potential of the larger company... so here I am. I'm still doing what God has given me the brain, hands, and love of mystery solving but at the same time I get to mold the differing aspects of each company I worked for. If I didn't think it would offend some folks or encourage them too I would tell you more details about each company and what I learned but suffice to say that I think that with each position you hold in life you take something with you. You learn from whatever you do whether it be a job or whether it be just working on your own car. So, I told my wife you look back over life and see how God is instrumental in showing you your talents and what you are good at. He opened the door for me to work with Gene at Blue Ridge, gave me a mentor who is still a mentor, and slowly showed me all I needed to learn to get me to this point where I am truly working for Him now. You know, a job is a job, but a job isn't just a job until you let it be so. For me my job fixing appliances is a chance to meet and greet folks, get in their homes and be there if they need encouragement, and perhaps fulfill something more than just fixing their appliances especially sense meeting Jesus for real. And, I'm so thankful to all those who have taught and mentored me along the way and to those who gave me a chance. Being an owner of my own business allows me to make calls and give a hand where needed with the new insight I've been given and that is what fixing appliances really is. I also hope to give back and give chances to others who need to learn. We all go through a process kinda like a sick appliance."

So, after hearing all Joe had to say I came to the idea that Perhaps, just perhaps, he has ended up in the business of fixing people after all!!!....

now there's a thought.

Who Likes Work???

Hello again! This is once again ArchAngel's wife, Kimberly...

This past Friday was the anniversary of my parent's deaths. They were killed by drunk drivers October 16, 1985 in Houston, Texas. The above is a painting I did of my Father. I was thinking over the weekend about them and how my father loved to work. I don't think I ever remember him complaining about the need to go to work. I also remember my mother working as well off and on. She would work in daycare facilities when we were young so that we could go with her. In fact, I remember both of them working two or three jobs at times. So, I started thinking about all the people I have known over the years... and realized I had not known anyone who was quite like my Father and Mother when it came to work, until meeting my husband.

You know ever sense Adam and Eve messed up and God commanded that humans would work the Earth for their daily bread work has just been a necessity! So how come Americans view work as a drudgery? Why do so many just people wake up on Monday morning dreading the day? I don't understand it. If work is just a given, a commandment of the Lord, and something we are to do as unto the Lord, then why look at it in such a bad respect?

First, I think it has something to do with our changing society we have and the way we have raised our children. Americans have begun to want something for nothing. We see consistently on our televisions and news media that being rich is 'easy street'. We all dream of hitting the lotto or winning a game show. Easy money. Everyone wants to attain to a higher sociostatus. Noone is content anymore! What happened to the days when we were content to have a small two or three bedroom house with one bathroom? What happened to the days when we were impressed and pleased with a bathroom at all? I can remember going to my Big Daddy's house (Great GrandDaddy) and using his outhouse. Now, I'm not that old but it just so happened that they had a outhouse. It wasn't until later that he installed a restroom. We were so appreciative and excited about his restroom. Nowadays, if folks don't have two bathrooms there is chaos and uproar in the home. Every other channel on television is folks talking about how to improve your home. In fact, just the other day I watched a show where a couple spent $74000 on JUST their Bathroom!!! EGHADS!

Second, I think it has to do with people feeling like they deserve more for what they give. Now don't get me wrong, I believe people should receive what they earn and are worth. But at the same time we shouldn't get more than what we deserve. Take for instance the time I worked in a factory for four years. Over that time I watched as some of the employees whom had been there for thirty plus years state that they felt they deserved more pay or more benefits. They were consistently comparing themselves and the pay they were given to the employees in the factory at the head office. I understand that they had worked for so many years with the company that they had begun to feel a kind of ownership in the company. But I agree only partially with them because although they may have worked with the company a number of years they still didn't own the company and the employees in the head office made more because of their demographic location.

The factory eventually closed down and all the people whom had worked there for all those years were shocked.

Now, why would a factory whom had been open for fourty plus years and had so many devoted and well trained employees close down? Why would the owners opt to move the factory back home? I believe it was because of the employee's attitudes towards work. Our attitudes weigh greatly on our performance. Bad attitudes equal bad performance. The company knew that the employees at their head facility had a better attitude, were thankful for their jobs, and that the situation was just different. They also saw that the output of the facility here was going down. So, they moved the facility and operations.

When Joe and I started his appliance repair company we decided up front we were not in this to just make money. We decided we didn't want to be a slave to the dollar or to another man's business. We wanted to totally depend on God to provide and live on faith. Yes, we need money to survive and care for our seven children (five live with us full time). Yes, money is integral to being able to live in the times we live, but No we were not going to place money as a God in our lives and live to make millions. We have decided we will work and serve others as if we were working for God himself. We want to enjoy our work and teach our children to do so too. I would love for when I am gone, if the Lord hasn't already come to get us, for my children to be able to think back and look at me like I look at my father. I want them to realize that I had never complained about work. I would like for them to be given a legacy of enjoying work and thanking God for the ability, skill, opportunity and means to work.

We Americans are like the Israelites in the Old Testament in so many ways. I hope we don't continue to forget how lucky we are to be free to work.

I hope today that anyone who reads this little tidbit will take some time to think about your job. Why do you work? Do you love your job? Would you change jobs if you could?

You CAN! Take some time to pray and ask God where He wants you. Ask Him to open some doors and lead the way if you are not happy where you are. We did it. We asked Him and He gave us signs like having our tools we use in the business donated to us.

And, ask Him for the grace to be content with where you are if He doesn't open other doors and you must stay where you are. Perhaps He wants you to stand for your beliefs and be an example.

I think the main thing I want for us all to get out of reading this little excerpt is to just be content and change our own attitudes about work. My writing simply reminds me as well that We CAN choose to want to enjoy work. I know we have heard everything in this little tidbit already and probably many times before. Perhaps we just needed to hear it again.

Let's all strive to leave a legacy to our children to Enjoy working. It's just that important. I'll never forget my parents and their attitudes towards work. What will your children remember about you?

Clogged Dryer Vent?

Good morning folks!

How is your dryer lately? Is it working up to full performance? Do you end up with mounds and mounds of lent and dust upon checking your filter? Is it heating properly?

If not, perhaps your vent is clogged!

This week I went to a customer's home to find this problem.

Here is how to take care of it!

First, here is your chance to get your dust mask. You are gonna need it! Second, If you have an electric leaf blower, this is the ticket to peak performance in dryers. Simply plug it in and blast your lent repository with the leaf blower for about five minutes. Go outside and check your vent. You are sure to find mounds of lint! Pull it out. Don't be afraid to stick your fingers in and pull ALL of it out. I usually repeat this three times, Blowing and the Pulling from the outside. Next, make sure your vent hose is not pinches or tangled if you have no lint coming out. You can give it a good shake as well to make sure all the dust is coming through and out. You can buy dryer sticks and tools to clean your vent but I just haven't found it to be necessary unless you happen to have a large dryer vent such as one that goes from a first floor to second or attic. In this case you may need to go ahead and purchase the dryer vent cleaning tool. But, it could still be cheaper for you then having to call an appliance repairman. It is also good to have a friend or family member go outside and make sure there is a steady stream of air coming out of the vent. After doing the things above you should have a nice, clean, properly working vent.

It is important to keep your vent clean because of a fire hazard as well. So, try and do this at least twice yearly! Hope that helps you to maintain wonderfully lent free dryer vents! If you have any trouble just give me a ring. Stay cozy!!!

So I looked up the definition and didn't realize how many ways the word Service is described... I came up with My own Definition of Serving or Servant...

to be a slave... or servant... Now that is something and I have to agree. Nowadays we all tend to come to the negative connotation of the word slave or servant as someone whom is downtrodden, beaten down and MADE to work... In my mind a servant is someone who WILLINGLY serves others. A person whom enjoys the act of working. A person who thrives on making other's lives enjoyable. A person whom is appreciative for the ability and freedom of working. Let's read further...

Free Stuff: Trade Your Old CDs And DVDs For An Ipod

Would you like to trade in your old cd's for a New XBOX? IPOD? or Playstation?

Well, look no further.....

Ok, So I know not all folks will have the same reason for wanting to do this as I do but sense I have become a beliver I have been mulling over what to do with my old cds I no longer listen to. And, I'm sure there are many other folks out there who are staring at a couple hundred cd's that they have no clue what to do with... So I got this idea to trade cd's for new ones or other items. I had written to several folks and contacted some radio stations about doing a trade in thing but apparently it would take alot to get something like that set up. SO, I did what every other normal person would do and searched the web... and lo and behold what did I find? but an awesome answer to my question at "Bible Money Matters". I love listening to music, playing music and singing. I just love music. So you’re probably not surprised to find out that I have an Ipod and that I listen to it pretty much on a daily basis.
What you might be surprised to know is that I didn’t have to pay a dime to get my Ipod! A year or so back we were in the midst of moving to a new house, and in the process we were getting rid of a ton of old things that we had stored away. One thing that I had decided on getting rid of was my old CD collection. I had a couple hundred CDs that were just sitting in a box in the closet. I looked into selling the CDs at a local used CD store, but they were only going to pay me pennies on the dollar for all of them.
Then I found feedyourplayer.com. What feedyourplayer.com will do is take your old CDs in trade for a new Ipod (they have all the new ones including the nano and the iphone). They’ll even take your CDs in trade for a new XBOX 360, Playstation 3, or a Wii if they have them in stock. If you don’t have enough CDs or DVDs to do the trade, you can pay the difference in cash.
So here’s how it worked. I downloaded an excel spreadsheet from their website that I had to fill out detailing all of the SKU numbers and titles of the CDs I wanted to send in. I also had some DVDs that I didn’t want anymore, and they take those as well.
After filling in the spreadsheet, I emailed it in and they notified me within a couple of days which CDs and DVDs they wanted me to send in. I then boxed up the items and sent them in to feedyourplayer.com. This is the only part that actually cost me anything, and it DID cost me about $20 to send in the heavy box.
A couple of weeks later after my CDs and DVDs were processed I got my brand new 30gb Ipod Video in the mail.
So here is how the trades work out at the time of my writing this:
1 GB Shuffle – 40 CDs or 30 DVDs
4GB Nano – 75 CDs or 50 DVDs
8GB Nano – 100 CDs or 75 DVDs
8GB Touch – 150 CDs or 100 DVDs
16GB Touch – 200 CDs or 135 DVDs
80GB Classic – 125 CDs or 85 DVDs
160GB Classic – 175 CDs or 120 DVDs
XBOX 360 – 175 CDs or 120 DVDs
Playstation 3 – 250 CDs or 170 DVDs

Crisp Cold Weather's a Comin'

Can you smell it in the air? You say, smell what? Why Fall of course!!! Oh, my favorite time of year!!! The pumpkins in our yard are turning yellow which is another sure sign, crisper weather is approaching. Time to break out the hot chocolate, blankets, perhaps a good movie or book and flip on the gas logs! Cozy Comforts... nothing better.

And, this is a busy season for us as we service and install gas logs. We take great pride in making sure your systems are running properly... wouldn't want you to miss that most important family or just plain ole me time. My wife is reading a set of Amish books currently by Wanda Brundstetter, I probably mispelled that, but she has been hinting at me to get a set of gas logs for our home as well. So folks, if you need some tuning up or installing just give us a ring and let us get you ready to enjoy the season to the fullest! God bless
