Define: Serving

In memoriam of Labor Day...

We love working and assisting people. Not just earning money. Serving People...
Ever thought about what that really means? Serving?
So I looked up the definition and didn't realize how many ways the word Service is described... I came up with My own Definition of Serving or Servant...
_____________________________
To be a servant to be Faborable, Opportune, or Convenient... To be worthy of Reliance or Trust... to discharge a duty...with respect due....To gratify with work through a term of service to furnish or supply with something needed or desired and answer the needs of people. People. Not just customers, but people. We are here to promote the welfare; ie the performance of appliances and the people who need them or perhaps the business they run using the appliances. This is my definition of SERVing.
____________________________________
The Webster's Dictionary states Serving, or the action of Serve is

Main Entry: 1serve
Etymology: Middle English, from Anglo-French servir, from Latin servire to be a slave, serve, from servus slave, servant
Wow...
to be a slave... or servant... Now that is something and I have to agree. Nowadays we all tend to come to the negative connotation of the word slave or servant as someone whom is downtrodden, beaten down and MADE to work... In my mind a servant is someone who WILLINGLY serves others. A person whom enjoys the act of working. A person who thrives on making other's lives enjoyable. A person whom is appreciative for the ability and freedom of working. Let's read further...

intransitive verb 1 a : to be a servant Now that sounds like we are getting closer...
b : to assist a celebrant as server at mass hmmm
3 a : to be of use Interesting...but not quite what I'm aiming for
b : to be favorable, opportune, or convenient Now that is interesting! To serve is to be Faborable, Opportune, or Convenient... I like that
c : to be worthy of reliance or trust I even like this more!!! To be worthy of Reliance or Trust... who would have guessed a small word like Serve would have this definition behind it?
d : to hold an office : discharge a duty or function
I agree, to serve is to discharge a duty...
4 : to prove adequate or satisfactory : suffice
hmmm... now I'm not into just sufficing...
5 : to help persons to food: as a : to wait at table b : to set out portions of food or drink
this is a given...
6 : to wait on customers
7 : to put the ball or shuttlecock in play in various games (as tennis, volleyball, or badminton)transitive verb again, redundant and not necessary for our purposes
1 a : to be a servant to : attend I like that
b : to give the service and respect due to (a superior) WOW to give respect due to.... fill in the blank, how about customers! Again, good one
c : to comply with the commands or demands of : gratify To gratify!
d : to give military or naval service to
e : to perform the duties of (an office or post)
2 : to act as server at (mass)3 archaic : to pay a lover's or suitor's court to (a lady)
4 a : to work through (a term of service) b : to put in (a term of imprisonment) Ok, I'll add this to my list...
5 a : to wait on at table
b : to bring (food) to a diner c : present, provide —usually used with up
6 a : to furnish or supply with something needed or desired b : to wait on (a customer) in a store c : to furnish professional service to Another addition...
7 a : to answer the needs of check!
b : to be enough for : suffice
c : to contribute or conduce to : promote Again check, we are here to promote the welfare ie the performance of appliances and the people who need them and then perhaps the business they run using the appliances...
8 : to treat or act toward in a specified way
9 a : to bring to notice, deliver, or execute as required by law Another wow
b : to make legal service upon (a person named in a process)
11 : to wind yarn or wire tightly around (a rope or stay) for protection
12 : to provide services that benefit or help
13 : to put (the ball or shuttlecock) in play (as in tennis or badminton)
— serve one right : to be deserved
Just another day in the analytical mind of ArchAngel
Food for though and blessings,
ArchAngel
